2020 was a season unlike any other, and while we couldn’t get together to celebrate as a whole club, we can still highlight the successes we’ve had throughout the year, as well as the contributions that our volunteers have made.

Clubperson of the Year – Becky Ashelford

For her hard work and commitment to keeping the club covid-safe and facilitating another great season at Toowong under really tough circumstances. Becky genuinely loves Toowong and puts her hand up to do anything for the club.  Not only is Becky our Club Secretary, she also captains the ladies Div 2 side and coaches her own up and coming stars in the U11s! Becky is constantly thinking about what’s best for the club and those around her – whether it’s giving the grandstand a quick clean before her own game or offering support to players and mediating grievances. She is dedicated to making Toowong FC an inclusive, positive club and it really makes playing at the club a real joy.

Notable mentions

Andrew Newman

Coordinated and coached the U/9 Girls group from season start, then liaised with the Club and parents to ensure managers/coaches were in place to compete with two teams, initially, and then added a third part-way through the season. A great effort to manage and maintain the interest of a large number (almost 30) of players, then subsequently engage the parent cohort to ensure they had a crack at football at the Club this season.

Courtney Green and Zoe Gilloway

Two of our women’s city players volunteered to take on management of the club canteen midway through the season, ensuring that operations could continue through the season, and providing a friendly and supportive point of contact at Dunmore Park each weekend.

Laurie Di Felice and Claude Capelli

Worked tirelessly for five years promoting Toowong’s top men’s team from Capital 3 to the Brisbane Premier League. The team has continued its success, finishing 2nd last year and in the top four this year. With Claude departing next season, Laurie is stepping up into the head coach role and is aiming to continue Toowong’s successful run in the BPL.
