We’re trawling through the archives to bring you stories from Toowong FC’s early years.
>>March 1921<< Toowong joined the Queensland Football Association along with three other new clubs in the Brisbane area – Kangaroo Athletic, Milton and Wynnum.
>>Sept 1921<< The Toowong ‘Soccer ladies’ made their debut at Brisbane Cricket Ground in September 1921. Their practice match on 17 September was described a ‘clever and creditable exposition’.
>>Sept 1932<< ‘Crowd Glad The End Came – Toowong and Pines play poor soccer’ screamed a headline from The Brisbane Truth in 1932. The paper at least conceded that the club made ‘one splendid move’ in their contest against the Pineapple Rovers – that is, the moment they moved off the field.
>>April 1933 << Football Ltd sought a 10 year lease for the Memorial Park in Toowong, with the organisation to fence the grounds, erect seating and charge admission to games, while paying the sum of £5 per year in rent. The Council rejected the application.
>>Aug 1935<< After LaTrobe claimed the 1935 premiership, the Telegraph didn’t mince words about the Club, saying it had been a ‘bitter disappointment’ and required much more organisation than mere ‘window dressing’.
Toowong FC historical results
Football historian, Andrew Robinson, has compiled season results for our top men’s and women’s teams for dating back to our foundation in 1921 (and 2005 for the women). It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come!
