New role for 2019

2018 was a massive year for Toowong FC with our Premier Men securing promotion to the Football Brisbane Premier League for the first time in the modern era; a truly amazing achievement for a Club that only 5 years ago had a membership of less than 370.

This achievement was the result of several years of hard work and both on and off field development, firstly through the work of Brendon Boss and Peter Ball over several years to redefine the Club as a serious contender in the Football Brisbane men’s football landscape then culminating with the appointment of Claude Capelli and his experienced team to take our premier men to the next level.

As a result of his excellent work and commitment, the Club appointed Claude as the Director of Senior Football (Mens) (DOSF)  in late 2018, giving him a greater overview of all senior teams from U18 through to BPL.

In this new role, Claude will work closely with Cail Turp our Director of Coaching (youths) to identify young talent at the Club for inclusion within our senior teams, and also keep a strong connection with Cath Smyth (Women’s Head Coach) and Karen Muir (Director of Female Participation) to make sure that the Club as a whole is consistently promoting the FFA Curriculum and maximising the opportunities for all of our players to play their entire football career at Toowong FC.

When asked about the challenge Claude was very positive “the trust the Club has placed in me and my coaching team regarding 2019 and beyond is fantastic; not only have they given us an excellent framework to run the premier teams in, they have appointed myself as the DOSF to make sure we can really get the entire senior men’s program firing at all levels, ensuring junior players at the Club have the best chance to play at the highest community level with Toowong FC.”.

Cail Turp the DoC was also very optimistic “finally we are starting to see the pieces of the puzzle we had laid out across the table in 2014 finally starting to fall into place. We still have a gap in higher competition levels in the Juniors ranks primarily down to field space, however we still have some great kids coming through the ranks most notably with our two U9, U10 and U11 Komodo teams.I’m looking forward to working with Claude to make sure we have a pathway across all skill levels.”.

It is clear that 2019 will be a very important year for the Club and the Committee is fully committed to ensure we have the best people in the most appropriate structure in place, maximising not only our chance of success at the premier team level, but to also make sure we can provide a pathway for any current or future player to play their entire football life at Toowong FC. Not only this, we are actively seeking to increase our participation space (in accordance with out Strategic Plan) to allow us to offer multiple teams in each junior age group, fully expanding our whole of Club goal of being the number one community club in Brisbane.
